To celebrate a strong finish for the 2020-2021 Chemistry Class, students not chillin' up in Acadia with the DMBZ used their chemical prowess to create some 🎶sweeeeet [combuuuuuuustion]🎵. After capturing with a balloon the hydrogen gas produced from a single replacement reaction between an acid and some aluminum foil, students lit the balloon on fire. The reaction was over in the blink of an eye, much like this school year has felt! PC: Alden Thacker

Last week, we celebrated the week we wait for all year long--Spirit Week. This is the dress down week, when we finally get to ditch our uniforms! Monday was Monochromatic Monday, where we were to dress in one color but variations of shades (although most people wore black). Tuesday was Teacher Tuesday and we dressed as our favorite teacher (or did we?). Some of the teachers even dressed up as coworkers. Meanwhile, there were tons of clones of Mrs. Dayen walking the halls! Wednesday was Wishful Wednesday, where we dressed like a time to which we wish we could return. Mrs. Johnson dressed up as a child to represent her own childhood but in her words, “I would never really wish to go back to a time before I had a certain Mr. Dustin Johnson in my life.” Thursday was Trends Thursday, where we dressed in as many 2021 trends as possible (some people were in pajamas, and yeah, this did include me). Friday was Fandom Friday, where we dressed in our favorite merchandise. Sports teams and TV characters were well represented by followers. K. Lemieux, Sophomore The basketball season has coming to an end. The players and coaches have had a great season and are already looking forward to next year. We are thankful basketball could still happen even with COVID-19. The seniors from the team were honored and the complete teams are featured in the photos below. Hello, I am Kelsey Lemieux coming to you live from Pine Tree Academy here in Freeport, Maine where we have recently had our annual spring banquet. Our day started with dinner for the early birds who caught the worm at Panera on 3/14/2021 at 5:00 pm. The night owls decided to come out afterward and meet us at the movie theater from 6:00 pm until around 9:00. At the movies, we all acquired free popcorn and soda. We started by playing a game where we would find people who had the same answers to common "getting to know you questions." Next, we played who is most likely to battle the classes using stickers to see who in each class could get the most stickers on one person. At the theater, after the games had settled down, we sat down to watch the movie. The movie was called National Treasure and It was about a historian and code breaker named Ben Gates who has, with the help of his family, been searching for treasure his whole life, a treasure that the people were uncertain whether was real or only a legend. To discover more, he joins an expedition with Ian Howe. Ben finds a new clue leading to Washington DC and the Declaration of Independence but Howe betrays him in an attempt to keep the treasure for himself. Ben goes into a race against time and his fellow man. At several points during this movie, a specific code word was said and the members of the Student Association would throw out chocolates to the students. All together, banquet was not quite the same but it was fun and we were together and that’s all that matters. -Kelsey, Sophomore As if this day couldn’t get any luckier! Not only Is today St.Patrick’s day. It Is also Mr. Krueger's birthday. Our wish is GOOD LUCK for you today and everyday!!
The following occurred 12/18/20 Christmas Pancake Breakfast Imagine you’re chilling out, enjoying the Christmas season, and on comes your radio with the sound of “Joyful, Joyful” gently flowing into your ears. Ah, joy. Who doesn’t love joy? But I’m curious about something. When you say “joy” in Christmastime, what do you think of? The lights? The birth? The presents? Or, rather, do you think of cramming an ENTIRE PANCAKE BREAKFAST into your mouth in under three minutes? Because that’s me, right there! You see, I came into the gym all nice and humble-like, when out of the blue my personal arch-nemesis arrived. The man challenged me to a speed eating competition, and with a plate full of pancakes, potatoes, fruit, and various other items, I gladly accepted. And with all the upperclassman boys cheering us on, I won by a MILE. My enemy was humbled, and I was rewarded with indigestion for the next three hours. But it wasn’t over! You see, the breakfast was only the first event. Following the wonderful breakfast was an equally wonderful show of Christmas spirit by most of the Academy! Our sophomores were on TV, our freshmen were breaking into elderly peoples’ homes, and those awesome, beautiful, unbeatable juniors were acting out the Twelve Days of Christmas. (Yours truly gladly performed Nine Ladies Dancing, much to the JOY of the audience.) When all was said and done, we retreated to our classrooms. On top of that, our adored juniors then proceeded to offer ice cream to all the Academy! (And, in spite of the earlier contest, I ate almost as much in ice cream and toppings as I did breakfast food.) Finally, the world got together for volleyball. The end. Or not. You see, my joy was not yet realized, but it was about to be. In the midst of the volleyball game, I slipped out, not quite having any real, palpable joy. I loved the fun and the victories, but where was the true meaning? However, as I thought to myself, a friend of mine happened to come by. After a brief exchange, this person’s words imparted to me something I could carry home for Christmas. True joy, you see. The kind that warms your heart. Let me explain: Christmas has a lot of meaning. We care about Jesus, and we care for the propaganda almost as much. But when I think “joy,” I think of something I saw posted on the door of Mrs. Johnson’s classroom. The post said, “Be like Jesus. Give somebody the gift of being truly present this Christmas.” When I received this gift, and felt real joy, I realized that that’s exactly it. Almost the whole Academy was gathered together as one body, truly engaged in each other. When I looked back and saw that, I saw the gift being exchanged time and time again. And as I left not long after, as I looked back on the festivities, the gatherings, and the joy, I was proud to realize that in Pine Tree Academy, we get the meaning of Christmas. We just get it!
